Dakota “Sleeping Beauty”
① memo 20170506 ~ Dakota “Sleeping Beauty” ~ Scenic flight in the Dutch Dakota “Doornroosje” (Sleeping Beauty) over the Green Heart of Holland in 2004. This plane was manufactured as a Douglas type C-47A-80-DL with construction number 19754 and entered the United States Army Air Force service in March 1944 with serial number 43-15288. After a long life all over the world , the Dutch Dakota Association bought her in ’87 , and with a complete overhaul and restoration , over a 12 years period , changed her from a workhorse C-47 to a DC-3C in splendid state : this PH-DDZ with Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engines. A representative from Boeing/Douglas joked that she was the last Dakota ever, was built in the Netherlands. This 2004 video of the “Papa Hotel Delta Delta Zulu” was shot with the Canon PowerShot G3 camera (CCD) at 15 frames/sec with 320 x 240 pixels. References
