Auschwitz Survivors In Brussels • @1MEMO 20250418

Short impression (some clips) of my visit on Friday evening, April 11, 2025, to the Atelier Marcel Hastir in Brussels, at the start and closing of ‘Auschwitz, our story’ — documentary and lecture by Herman Teerhöfer, with the participation of Natalia and Julia Kotarba of the Karski Quartet.
Herman Teerhöfer of the Smolinski Foundation interviewed 91 Auschwitz survivors over the past fourteen years. Through his documentary Auschwitz, Our Story, he explains how they managed to survive Auschwitz spiritually, oscillating between hope and fear.

Strange Fruit | 20240706

Kuttekoven track to Auschwitz… Right after the site where Simon Gronowski escaped from the 20th convoy, ‘Transport XX’, the railway bed of this former so-called ‘Fruitspoor’ (Fruit Track) crosses the village of Kuttekoven, with – on the horizon – the Church of Saint John the Baptiser , currently with the expo ‘Witzwart’ (Whiteblack) – aka Land(es)capes from the 20th Convoy – by the local photographer Jo Struyven.
Filmed Sunday early afternoon, January 26th, 2014, while scouting the place for a reportage with Simon Gronowski later that day.

Number 1234 | 20240303

Door number 123 on our junior suite in Hotel Leopold Brussels that weekend 27 February to 1 March 2009 — a major free upgrade of the standard room that was included in our voucher. I associate, in retrospect, 123 with Simon Gronowski’s Transport XX story, that he told me two years later, and his fascination for numbers and coincidence.
