Photo at the opening of the Open Memory installation with Simon Gronowski (survivor Transport XX to Auschwitz) together with Maria Baumeister (Cologne Initiative ‘Die Bahn erinnern’) and, seen from behind, Gitta R. Door number 123 on our junior suite in Hotel Leopold Brussels that weekend 27 February to 1 March 2009 — a major free upgrade of the standard room that was included in our voucher. I associate, in retrospect, 123 with Simon Gronowski’s Transport XX story, that he told me two years later, and his fascination for numbers and coincidence.

Welkom, bij deze eerste internationale podcast van 1MEMO.
Mijn naam is Michel van der Burg.
Vandaag is het woensdag 14 februari 2024. Valentijnsdag.
Ik wandel in het Groene Hart van Nederland…terwijl ik deze eerste 1 memo podcast maak in het Nederlands.
Tja … wat is zo’n 1-memo ?
In ‘t kort : gewoon ‘iets’… wat ik dagelijks publiceer .
Een foto, film – kort, lang – tekst, audio…
Niet persé dagelijks, dacht ik aanvankelijk… toen ik daar aan begon.
Maar ik doe ik dit nu eigenlijk dagelijks , al bijna 10 jaar…
Gestart in juni 2014 met publiceren in het Engels…. voor een internationaal publiek, hopelijk…
De focus is altijd op visueel werk, meest film.
Nu ik graag podcasting toevoeg, realiseer ik me plots dat het grootste deel van mijn materiaal in het Nederlands is – mijn moedertaal.
In filmwerk wordt dat zonodig vertaald, dus dat is geen probleem.
Maar een internationale podcast is anders…
Het podcasten hier zal in het Nederlands, Engels en Frans zijn.
Gisteren de première van de Engelse editie van deze post – en nu dan de Nederlandse première.
Ik zal de taal in de titels aangeven.
Tenslotte … waarom deze ① memo’s ?

Welcome , at this 1st international podcast , at 1MEMO.
My name is Michel van der Burg.
Today it’s Tuesday , Feb. 13, 2024 . I am walking in the Green Heart of Holland…while making this first 1 memo podcast.
Well , what is a 1 memo ?
In short — It’s just a thing…I publish daily. A photo, film, text, audio … Not necessarily daily …
But I have been doing this daily , actually , for almost 10 years…now…
Started June 2014. Publishing in english …. for an international public , hopefully…
The focus is on visual work, mostly film.
Now that I like to add podcasting, I suddenly realize , that most of my footage is in Dutch – my native language. In film work , that is translated , so , no problem.
However an international podcast is different .
Podcasting here will be in dutch, english, french .
Here first the english edition – tomorrow the dutch edition.
I will indicate the language in the titles.
So why these ① memo’s ?
Well , for an answer , I like to quote here the dutch author Marja Pinckaers ,

Every day I make something. Then in the evening there’s something in the world that wasn’t there in the morning.

A virtual performance, during the April 2020 Corona virus lockdown, of the epilogue of the community opera PUSH , entitled : Ma Vie N’est Que Miracles | My life is only miracles – hosted by composer Howard Moody. It premiered on the night of the 19th April 2020, exactly 77 years after three Brussels resistance heroes stopped the Nazi train Transport XX, transporting 1600 Jewish deportees to Auschwitz, and more than 200 prisoners escaped from the train before the German border.
