Welkom, bij deze eerste internationale podcast van 1MEMO.

Mijn naam is Michel van der Burg.

Vandaag is het woensdag 14 februari 2024. Valentijnsdag.

Ik wandel in het Groene Hart van Nederland…terwijl ik deze eerste 1 memo podcast maak in het Nederlands.

Tja … wat is zo’n 1-memo ?

In ‘t kort : gewoon ‘iets’…
wat ik dagelijks publiceer .

Een foto, film – kort, lang – tekst, audio…

Niet persé dagelijks, dacht ik aanvankelijk…
toen ik daar aan begon.

Maar ik doe ik dit nu eigenlijk dagelijks , al bijna 10 jaar…

Gestart in juni 2014 met publiceren in het Engels….
voor een internationaal publiek, hopelijk…

De focus is altijd op visueel werk, meest film.

Nu ik graag podcasting toevoeg,
realiseer ik me plots
dat het grootste deel van mijn materiaal
in het Nederlands is – mijn moedertaal.

In filmwerk wordt dat zonodig vertaald, dus dat is geen probleem.

Maar een internationale podcast is anders…

Het podcasten hier zal in het Nederlands, Engels en Frans zijn.

Gisteren de première van de Engelse editie van deze post – en nu dan de Nederlandse première.

Ik zal de taal in de titels aangeven.

Tenslotte … waarom deze ① memo’s ?

Tja, voor een antwoord citeer ik hier graag de Nederlandse schrijfster Marja Pinckaers – uit haar boek 16 versie 61 :

Welcome , at this 1st international podcast ,
at 1MEMO.

My name is Michel van der Burg.

Today it’s Tuesday , Feb. 13, 2024 .
I am walking in the Green Heart of Holland…while making this first 1 memo podcast.

Well , what is a 1 memo ?

In short — It’s just a thing…I publish daily.
A photo, film, text, audio …
Not necessarily daily …

But I have been doing this daily , actually , for almost 10 years…now…

Started June 2014.
Publishing in english ….
for an international public , hopefully…

The focus is on visual work, mostly film.

Now that I like to add podcasting,
I suddenly realize , that most of my footage is in Dutch – my native language. In film work , that is translated , so , no problem.

However an international podcast is different .

Podcasting here will be in dutch, english, french .

Here first the english edition – tomorrow the dutch edition.

I will indicate the language in the titles.

So why these ① memo’s ?

Well , for an answer , I like to quote here the dutch author Marja Pinckaers ,

Every day I make something.
Then in the evening
there’s something in the world

Viviane – 80 Years After Escape From Transport XX | 20231030

Short impression of Viviane telling her story April 2023 in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium, at the 80th anniversary of the attack on Transport XX near Boortmeerbeek — the Twentieth Train heading for Auschwitz, the night of April 19-20, 1943. Viviane escaped from Transport XX in the womb of her pregnant mother Isabella Weinreb-Castegnier who jumped from this death train, with the help of Elias Gnazik, shortly after the 2nd attack on this train near Bierbeek, Belgium. Simon Gronowski’s speech over de PUSH Opera … het genie van Howard Moody, de vele mensen rond de wieg van dit wonder … de emotie van koningin Mathilde van België, en speelt piano tijdens de herdenking van 2019 van Transport XX in Boortmeerbeek.

De nieuwste – nu virtuele – uitvoering van de community opera PUSH met meer dan 150 zangers uit de vier casts en koren uit het Groot Brittanië en België werd vorige week door iedereen thuis zelf opgenomen en is nu online te zien sinds de première op 19 april 2020 hier deze link https://youtu.be/-sm1rI-j5iE precies 77 jaar nadat Youra Livschitz, Robert Maistriau en Jean Franklemon Transport XX stopten.

De PUSH-opera is gebaseerd op het verhaal van Simon Gronowski. En het nieuwe virtuele optreden ‘PUSH’ is ook uniek met het nu integreren van beelden van Simon’s leven.

Simon Gronowski speaks – in dutch and french – on the PUSH Opera … the genius of Howard Moody, the many people around the crib of this miracle … the emotion of Queen Mathilde of Belgium , and plays the piano during the 2019 commemoration of the attack of the 20th convoy – Transport XX – on stage in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium.

The latest – now virtual – performance of community opera PUSH with more than 150 singers from the four casts and choruses form the UK & Belgium was made last week by all at home, and is now screening online from the premiere the 19th April 2020 here https://youtu.be/-sm1rI-j5iE … exactly 77 years after the three Brussels resistance heroes Youra Livschitz, Robert Maistriau and Jean Franklemon stopped the Nazi train Transport XX, transporting 1600 Jewish deportees to Auschwitz, and more than 200 prisoners escaped from the train before the German border – that attack is unique in the history of the Holocaust.

The PUSH opera is based on Simon Gronowski’s story. And the new virtual performance film ‘PUSH’ is unique also in now integrating images of Simon’s life – the 11 year old Jewish boy who was pushed from the train – Transport XX – by his mother on the way to Auschwitz , April 19th, 1943.

XXth Transport to Auschwitz ~ Marc Michiels & Mark Van den Wijngaert

The present has its past. Presentation of new unique book of a study of Transport XX by author Marc Michiels yesterday during the commemoration of Transport XX – May 5, 2019 in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium.
“Het XXste transport naar Auschwitz” (the XXth transport to Auschwitz) is the 2nd (revised and expanded) edition of this detailed dutch work (ISBN
9789059089808 ) published last month by the two authors Marc Michiels and Mark Van den Wijngaert.

On the night of April 19, 1943 the XXth Transport departs from the Dossinkazerne in Mechelen with 1631 Jewish men, women and children heading for Auschwitz. Armed with one revolver, and a storm lamp covered with red tissue paper, three young men manage to stop the train between Boortmeerbeek and Haacht and free seventeen prisoners.

This rescue operation by George Livschitz, Robert Maistriau and Jean Franklemon is unique in the history of the Holocaust. Even before the train reaches the Belgian border, more than two hundred prisoners can escape. Some of them are shot, others are arrested again by the Nazis, but most escape the fate that awaits them in Auschwitz.

The book describes the escapes from the XXth Transport, how the transport was put together and what would happen to the vast majority of deportees. The countless testimonies confront the reader with the racial destructiveness of the Nazis and tell how some people barely managed to escape.

Marc is dreaming now of an English and or French translation of his dutch book…
