‘Spruitjessoep’ , dutch Brussels sprout soup, in the Daily Cookbook (Dagkookboek by Marianne Stuit) I bought new — two copies for both me and my friend — in 1971-2. I was living in Oegstgeest, Holland, near Leiden, as a student Biology (Biochemistry) at the Leiden University. I vividly remember, sliding across the floor (with a sprained ankle) between my tiny kitchen and student room – in the attic of my landlady’s house – with a large enamel pot of Brussels sprout soup.

that a German law says,
that in Occupied Territory…
when you have a school,
a drawing school,
the teachers and students…
should not go to Germany
as forced laborers.
What did he do :
He found a lawyer .. a notary here in Brussels,
who made the stamps :
“it’s still a drawing school”.
And, many of the people of the resistance…
were officially registered here…
as painters, as a teacher or as a student.
And when we go upstairs later,
you still see the typewriter,
used by the resistance for printing…
leaflets against the nazis.”

The Old Fortress of Corfu , Greece – here filmed 29 September 2022 – was used at the end of World War II by the Nazis to imprison the Jews of Corfu prior to their deportation from the island (Ref 1). Greek resistance fighter Manolis Glézos (Sep 1922 – Mar 2020) – who tore down the swastika from the Acropolis in May 1941 – was confined in a cellar there (Ref 2, 3). Last month, 28 September 2022, holocaust survivor Mr Simon Gronowski – escapee from the 20th prisoners’ train convoy to Auschwitz (Ref 4) – spoke in the European Parliament at the Centennial celebration of the birth of Manolis Glézos, on the resistance against fascism, nazism, imperialism and the daily fight for democracy (Ref 5, 6, 7) . Mr Simon Gronowski (born 12 oktober 1931 in Brussels) is celebrating today his 91th birthday … congrats … La vie est belle !

Consurella Show | 20220703 | Michel van der Burg | 1-memo.com | Brochure of the 1973 visual report I made in Dordrecht, Holland – my first assignment as a photographer – of the Consurella Show’s touring in Holland in 1973-1974.
My next assignment was the autonomous creation of images for a new show design with projection of the images as the decor in these live shows made up of real commercials supplemented with fake commercials. First 10 test shows (early 1973) had attracted ca 5000 visitors from Dutch housewives’ organizations. Another 50 shows were planned to tour in cities all over Holland Sep’73-May’74.
Early Nov ’73 I visited the new show using the slideshow decor of images I had made.
I was a Leiden University student Biochemistry at the time, and invested a new camera for this job – Asahi Pentax SLR camera.
