View from the Rembrandt bridge in the city of Leyden, Holland. Here Rembrandt van Rijn was born, and had his first studio from 1624, on the quay here on the left (Kort Galgewater), at this corner of the Rijn (Rhine) river called ‘Galgewater’ (Gallows Water) where at that time – from 1659 to 1795 (1,2) the bodies of those executed were hanging on the gallows placed along the river.
