Walking the Via Tirolensis on the Viller Steig … following two pilgrimage routes at once : both the Camino de Santiago (St James Way , Jakobsweg) and the Via Romea Germanica. Both these pilgrimage routes follow this little road, the Viller Steig, between the villages Vill and Igls, in Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria.

Via Tirolensis

The Via Romea Germanica pilgrimage route, goes from Stade near Hamburg in Germany to Rome, Italy. The Tyrolean section (Via Tirolensis) in Austria and Italy of the Via Romea, goes from Mittenwald (German/Austrian border) – via Seefeld, Innsbruck, Vill, Igls, Patsch, to Brenner – Brenner (Austrian/Italian border), and next to Bolzano in South-Tyrol, Italy.

Camino de Santiago (St James Way , Jacobsweg): This road between Igls and Vill is also part of the Brenner – Innsbruck stage of the East Tyrol route in the Camino de Santiago network in Austria and Italia , the ‘Jakobsweg Osttirol’ .
In the old town of Innsbruck at the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) this East Tyrol route merges with the main (east to west route in Austria), the ‘Jacobsweg Tirol’.
