RØDE Wireless Micro Stereo Premiere • Video Review #10 • 20241126

Audio not processed in this video. Best use headphones, and turn up volume level a little ;)

Today, I received the new RØDE Wireless Micro system with the USB-C connector.

I tested ambient stereo sound with the RØDE Micro transmitters equiped with the furry windshield (magnetically) mounted at the left and right side either on my jacket (ca 33 cm , 13 inch apart), or on my cap (ca 25 cm , 10 inch apart).

For magnetic attachment, I did not use the supplied magnets, but the magnetic hangers I have from Insta360.

Wind shield

In a pilot test in our garden without the furry windshield , the slightest breece was noticable. So the furry windshield is needed outdoors.

Settings

In this Video Review #10 I filmed in ProRes HDR on the iPhone 16 Pro, with the RØDE Wireless Micro system, with the Receiver set at ‘Split’ routing , and High output gain.

Using Flight Mode in the phone I noticed no issues.

Pros

In my opinion the ambient sound and stereo space in these tests are picked up and recorded excellent. What do you think?

Cons

At first I tried mounting the transmitters side by side in cold shoes on a bar, like I showed the other day (20241124) when testing the RØDE Wireless GO II system for stereo recording.

Unfortunately , the clips of the MICRO transmitters are too thin, and do not fit at all in most (universal) cold shoes, they will fall out, including from RØDE’s phone mounting systems like the ‘Magnetic Mount’ and ‘Phone Cage’.
Only the (solo) cold shoe of my phone clamp (Black Eye Grip – not available anymore) worked with these transmitters.

Cycling with a strong breeze in Holland today. And another RØDE wireless sound test in Video Review #9 today with details below.

Video Review #9

Video Review #9 filmed in ProRes HDR on iPhone 16 Pro testing again the RØDE Wireless GO II Dual Mic System for stereo sound, now, however, with both transmitters mounted only 12 cm (4.7 inch) apart (more tomorrow on this in Review #10), and using only the default little furry RØDE windscreen.

RØDE Receiver (RX) internal settings at Split mode, with Gain level high (howver, the gain settings on the Wireless GO II RX do not impact the output from the RX via USB to iPhone).

So windscreen protection, was different now from the previous method I used with a second windscreen layer, by packing the entire transmitter in a furry windscreen bag. Even though we had a strong south breeze (SSW, up to 6 Beaufort), with the wind coming from behind in this clip.

Audio processed in Final Cut Pro with audio Gain +24 dB; Equalization default mode ‘Bass Reduce’; and, Pan Mode ‘Create Space’ (50%).
