Review Part 2|5 Sony B1M vs Sennheiser MKE440 – Two Furry Windmuffs for the Sony Microphone 20190914

The second of 5 short outdoor reviews comparing the new Sony ECM-B1M digital shotgun camera microphone vs the Sennheiser MKE 440 stereo shotgun microphone.
Now for the Sony ECM-B1M a second ‘Furry Windmuff’ is used on top of the standard Sony fuzzy windshield supplied in the box. That second windshield is from a Canon DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone that I used some years ago on the Canon HF-G10 camera. ① memo 20190914 .

Hello Sony ECM-B1M Shotgun Microphone

① memo 20190906 ~ Hello Sony ECM-B1M Shotgun Microphone ~ First experience in wind and willows around Alphen, Holland, with the Sony ECM-B1M Digital Shotgun Microphone, in the Super-directional Mode, with Manual audio Level 5 (no low cut filter) using both the supplied Sony fuzzy wind screen, plus – in addition as a second layer – another different fuzzy wind screen (used on a old Canon DM-100 mic) – the camera is a Sony A7S Mark II. More detailed wind test follows soon.

Sennheiser Memory Mic Hands-On Review

① memo 20180901 ~ Sennheiser Memory Mic Hands-On Review ~ Comparison of sound of the external Sennheiser Memory Mic versus the internal iPhone X sound right in the App. Sound was recorded by the stand alone Sennheiser Memory Mic – as well as in the iPhone X , and is synchronized afterwards automatically in the Sennheiser Memory Mic App – around Alphen in Holland today. In the App the source sound is chosen switching from Memory Mic to iPhone X respectively.

Sensor

① memo 20180315 ~ Sensor ~ First shot yesterday with a new Sony Alpha A7 mark III camera , inspecting the sensor for dust over the blue sky, and focussing on some clouds – using a Sony FE 55mm F/1.8 prime lens at F11 with continuous autofocus. Later that day of testing and customizing this camera , I learned this new camera’s image quality probably equals the quality in low light of my Sony A7S mark II camera (with the Sony FE 28mm F2 prime lens) , and with a far better focussing experience with this camera/lens combination – accurate portrait auto focussing in the dark – a delight to use !
