Putmolen ~ Episode 4 “Archimedes’ Screw”

This water screw (Archimedes’ screw) of the Putmolen windmill pumps the polder water from the lowest part of the polder, the so-called Put (pit) into the ca 1 meter (3 feet) higher-lying irrigation ditches of the Aarlanderveen polder around Alphen in Holland.

Putmolen ~ Episode 3 “Smock”

Putmolen water windmill in the Aarlanderveen polder around Alphen, Holland.
This smock type windmill has a sloping tower with eight sides, topped with a cap that rotates to bring the sails into the wind. This type of windmill got its name from its resemblance to smocks worn by farmers in an earlier period.

Putmolen ~ Episode 1 “Crystal Ball”

In the Aarlanderveen polders around Alphen in Holland, here Mill #4 of the Gang of Four Mills – also known as the Putmolen (Pit mill).
This Gang of four mills (dutch : Molenviergang) is working together to upload the polder water around the Aarlanderveen village in 4 steps – by stepped drainage via basins – all together almost 5 meters , 16 feet, higher into the Old Rhine river.
This Putmolen mill (with millers Rita and Johan Slingerland) drains the lowest part of the polder, the so-called Put (pit), where peat was still extracted when this mill was build in 1801 , after the higher part of the polder had already been milled dry. Testing the included furry windshield accessory of the Sennheiser MKE 200 Microphone with a gentle breeze – 19 km/h – 12 mph – this week at sunset in the polders of the Green Heart of Holland, – using the Sony ZV-1 camera with in camera volume levels of 20, and 25 respectively. Also checking background sound from this directional, super-cardioid, microphone.
